I teologilogg II skrev jag om kyrkan och politiken. Men den typen av resonemang är förstås alltid bara en del av något vidare. Som det jag skrev om i teologilogg I, och att jag på senare tid återvänt till en bok som jag först trodde att jag förstod genom att bläddra igenom den. Detta är redan tänkt, tänkte jag då. Så här skriver han bland annat (det är jag som har färglagt för att dem av er som är trötta i tanken ska hitta highlights…):
…while it may be granted that apocalyptic is not reducible to an explicitly political response to an historical event, doing so does not entail an apolitical interpretation of apocalyptic. This is because apocalyptic, even when grasped through an ideological problematic, is immediately a signification of immanent excess. Apocalyptic is a counter-ideology, but it is such insofar as it claims that reality exceeds the boundaries effectuated by the covenant ideology. The ideological—or as I would put it, the significative—here implies the ontological, and the ontological implies the political. This last implication may not be evident when a delimited notion of politics is foregrounded, such that some events are “political” whereas other are “cultural” or “religious.” If, however, we understand politics more broadly as the making of reality, then nothing could be more political than the claim that reality exceeds its signification, that it exceeds even the (covenantal) mode of relation that God has established with God’s people. It is thus evident, when the above understanding of apocalyptic is given to Jesus’s declaration that the kingdom of God has come, that this declaration is political. Christian declaration, precisely because it is apocalyptic, calls for the alternative construction of the world.
