Att finna rätt läsare

I slutet på den anonyma fjortonhundratalstexten The Cloud of Unknowing (på svenska  Molnet) kan vi läsa detta:

And I pray thee for God’s love that thou let none see this book, unless it be such one that thee think is like to the book; after that thou findest written in the book before, where it telleth what men and when they should work in this work. …

Fleshly janglers, flatterers and blamers, ronkers and ronners, and all manner of pinchers, cared I never that they saw this book: for mine intent was never to write such thing to them. And therefore I would not that they heard it, neither they nor none of these curious lettered nor unlearned men: yea! although they be full good men in active living, for it accordeth not to them.

Den här typen av varningar är inte ovanliga i förmoderna texter som inte alls accepterar den moderna tanken på att författarens ansvar slutar när texten är skriven, att texten därmed lever sitt eget liv. Även om den moderna synen givetvis på något vis är objektivt sann – texter lever sina egna liv – så visar också denna typen av varningar vad det innebär att skriva i en kapitalistisk kultur. Om jag får höra att någon ”ronker” eller ”ronner” (vad det nu sen kan vara) har läst någon av mina böcker blir jag i allmänhet glad även om jag kan undra vad de månne kan få ut av den.

Är det här något vi har orsak att tänka mer kring? Vem vi skriver för?
